Parent AUP
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Hello everyone and welcome to your students 8th grade class
for this year! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is ready for
the students to start back. In this course we will be using a lot of
technology. We will be mainly using iPad’s when it comes to doing
assignments that require the internet. Worksheets will be given out in
class. As you all know I do have an acceptance use policy that explains
the rules of the classroom, the rules of the internet, and what they can
and cannot do when they are on the internet. I feel as though we could
make using the technology even safer when it comes to them using the
iPad’s at home. I understand that the internet can be scary for a lot of
us especially giving free access to teenagers, however, I feel as though
we can work together to make a more positive and safer environment
regarding the technology for this class.
In
another document, I have a template that you as the parent/guardian can
make of your own or use it as it is. I feel if there are rules within
the household and classroom, then the student is more likely to not
subject themselves into an unsafe place on the internet. This is not a
requirement for you as the parent/guardian to do with your student, but
if you would like to do this then you can use the template or you can
make one of your own. In your own acceptance use policy, you can include
your own house rules that you would like to have written down. This can
help the student be reminded every day of your own rules that they need
to follow. Second, you can make your own rules regarding technology
within the household. This is where you should do the do’s and don’ts of
the internet, but you can still make it your own. In that same section,
or you can make a new one, I would write down the consequences of
breaking any of these rules. Some can have one consequence depending on
the severity or there can be 3 level of consequences. This is all up to
you. Lastly, I would make this a contract between you and the student,
so they realize the standards they are to be held at in the household. I
hope we all have a great school year, and a safe school year using
technology!
Sincerely,
If you have any other questions you can email me at emily.oldman@smail.astate.edu and I have attached the template if you would like to use it!
