Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can my child use another device besides a computer?

The student's can use any device as long as they are able to access google classroom, Buzz, and their email. Computers do work better when trying to see a pdf on Buzz, however, I do make sure that the students know when an assignment has mutliple pages.

2. How do I login to my Google Classroom account?

Google classroom is already available on the iPad's, so all you will need to do is put in your Nettleton email for the username and raiders2025 for the password.

3. How do I login to my Buzz account?

Buzz is already available on the iPad's, so your username is your ID number/lunch code and the password is your first initial and last initial with the last four numbers of your ID.

4. What if I don't have internet access at home?

The school has already given out information regarding if your student is to become a digital learner. You must have interent at home, however, if you cannot have your student come to school then we can try to provide a hotspot for you. You will have to contact Mr. Shipman and let him know.

5. If my student becomes a virtual learner, what should their day look like?

They should act as though they are going to school like everybody else. We start first period for the remediation assignment at 7:30, so they need to be up and completing that. I would give them a few hours in the morning to work on 4-5 classes, and then have a lunch break. After their break, they need to start the rest of their classes. Give them some time after "school" to have a break, and around 4 in the afternoon they should start their "homework" or whatever work they did not complete earlier in the day.

6. How often do you grade and update HAC?

We have to grade two assignments every week and post them by a Friday. I usually post most of my assignments on that Monday since I do assign worksheets or IXL's for them to turn in by midnight.

7. Do you create videos for the virtual students?

I create videos every week about once or twice depending on the lessons. The videos are available on Buzz under the agenda.

8. What is the best way to communicate with you either throughout the day or after school?

My prep period is from 7:45 - 8:36, so I am available for emailing during that time. I can also receive phone calls, however, they cannot be more than 20 minutes since I will be getting ready for my classes. I am available after school to receive phone calls betweem 2:36 and 3:20 every day. I will also try to answer your emails even after hours if I'm available.

9. What steps are taken when a student gets in trouble in the classroom?

I usually give warnings because I believe that students should receive a second chance. However, if they continuous behavioral problems, then I will write them up. Usually with warnings I will do a minor write up in our system, but the student does NOT get in trouble with administration. I will do a major write up if the student continues their behavior which means they will be sent to the office for a referral.

10. What can I do at home to help my student succeed?

Staying on top of their homework is a major key to the student's success in my class. We do have a lot of classwork, however, it can become homework if they are needing a little bit more time. Checking their grades at least once a week because if you do have a concern, then we can work it out then rather than later. Lastly, the student needs to know that they can communicate with me anytime whether that is in the classroom or through an email. Having that parent support that they can communicate with me really helps.
