Learning Through Movement

When students are active during a lesson, they are able to learn concepts on a deeper level and they are able to grasp them more quickly. Movement in learning helps students to understand more abstract concepts that they are required to learn because they are able to see the processes happening and they are able to physically manipulate variables to do the action that is required. Physical activity in the classroom and within lessons has been proven to increase academic success. Not only does this help students to learn and succeed, it also helps them to remember a concept, and finally it encourages an active lifestyle. Students are stuck sitting still in their desks all day, so they start to misbehave and stop paying attention. All they want to do is play. So why not incorporate play and activity into our lessons. Active learning engages students and also helps with behavior while still accomplishing the objectives of the lesson.
