Copyright and Fair Use
Copyright is a law of protection that authors and creators receive for their work. With copyright, creators have the right to make copies, distribute copies, perform work, display work, and make modifications to their works. It is illegal for anyone to do these things without the creator's permission because their work is protected.

Fair Use is the "right of the public" to use copyrighted material without the owner's permission. These situations include using the work for teaching or research.
