So often students find themselves sitting in a dull classroom listening to an endless lecture or researching another boring old guy. These same students bring home failing grades simply becuase they don't get it. The material doesn't make sense. There is no connection to themselves or the world around them. Enter Arts Integration!
Arts integration is the inclusion of our speciality programs in the classroom. This means instead of writing a paper about the civil war, we create a song about it. This means instead of completing a project on poster board about our reading for the week, we act out the literature using reader's theatre. This means instead of simply reviewing math facts, we design an encaptivating art display where other students have to find the answers to the problems within the pictures.
Arts integration is a way to bring learning to life. It is a way to use a student's strengths to help them learn. It is a way for students to use critical thinking and real world application. It is a way for students to get not only excited about their learning but tap into their creativity and imagination!
