Bullying
Bullying is a issue in the daily lives of many of our students. According to the website of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.” Bullying has impacts on self esteem, health, and school performance. Students can become depressed and consider harming themselves or others.
This very serious
issue is now compounded by technology. Cyberbullying is bullying that takes
place over digital devices. There are many ways that cyberbullying can take
place, some examples would be private content that is shared on the open
web, taunts sent in private messages, and rumors that are started and shared
in social media. It is important that teachers, parents, and other students
pay attention to the students around them to prevent or stop bullying from
taking place. Cyberbullying is especially difficult to detect so I have
shared several webpages to help bring create an awareness for some of the
signs associated with bullying and cyberbullying.
