Copyright and Fair Use

What is a Copyright?

Copyright is something that our government gives to authors and creators. It protects their work for a certain time from being copied or used without permission and for someone else’s gain. This protects their works from plagiarism.

What is Fair Use?

Fair use is what allows the copy of copyrighted materials without permission in certain circumstances. You can’t make a profit from their work, but you can use it to create something new or use it in a classroom to show how it fits into a subject. This allows people to use private works to make points or give examples in papers or teachers to print copies of something in order to show it to students.
