Recommended Children's Literature

During young adolescence, so many changes are taking place both inside and outside of a student's body. Not only are changes taking place, but students are also trying to figure out who they truly are at the same time. Reading literature can be a great outlet for students and can also help them find characters or people that they want to be like one day. Reading young adult literature is so important for this development, and it also helps students further develop their reading and literacy skills. Below are a few of my favorite young adult novels that I would recommend to my students.

Uprising - Margaret P. Haddix

The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins

Tuck Everlasting - Natalie Babbitt

Hatchet - Gary Paulsen

The Penderwicks - Jeanne Birdsall

Bridge to Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

The Killing Sea - Richard D. Lewis

The Giver - Lois Lowry

A Wrinkle in Time - Madeleine L'Engle

Fever 1793 - Laurie Halse Anderson
