Autism Awareness
More than 25 years ago the National Autism Society launched a nationwide effort to promote awareness, inclusion, and understanding of those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The month of April is Autism Awareness month people across the nation wear blue or a puzzle ribbon to show there support for those effected by ASD. 1 in 59 children are diagnosed with ASD each year. Boys are 4 times as more likely to be diagnosed than girls.
The thing that makes Autism Spectrum Disorder so unique is that there is not one specific type of Autism but many subtypes. Most children are diagnosed by the age of 2 or 3. Some symptoms of ASD include: social/communication challenges and restrictive, repetitive behavior. Early intervention is key to helping those living with ASD.
