Plagiarism

When using the internet, we must always use citations if we using another person's words or phrases in our own work. If you do not cite your references, this is called plagiarism. Plagiarism is when you take someone else's work or ideas and pass them off as your own. This does not matter if your work is to become published or not, you have to cite it.

There are four types of plagiarism. First, direct plagiarism. This is when a student copies someone else's work word-for-word without citing or using quotation marks. Second, self plagiarism. This means a student takes their work from one class and submits the same assignment for another class. If you want to use the work from another class, you MUST get permission from both teachers. Third, mosiac plagiarism. This is when a student uses someone else's work, but changes only a few words in the sentences. The general idea of that sentence is still being plagiarized. Lastly, accidental plagiarism. This means a student neglected to cite their work, unintenionally left out quotation marks, or unintenionally paraphrased from a source.
