Equitable Grading

  

Equitable grading is the idea that students should be assessed in fair and equal ways, with no room for implicit bias. Regardless of grading scales, students should be successful in their learning. In my classroom, I vow to always practice equitable grading. I will not grade based on subjective topics such as “effort,” because that allows implicit bias to play a role in my grading scale. We should all try to acknowledge and eradicate our implicit biases, but until then, educators need to reevaluate how they are grading and who exactly is being impacted by certain assessment practices that have been put in place.
