Copyright and Fair Use

Copyright means that the content being discussed is owned by an individual or a company. Content that is protected by copyright cannot be used for teaching or entertainment purposes by anyone except the owner. For more information about copyright, you can visit Copyright.gov or Investopedia.

Fair Use allows for copyrighted content to be used without owner permission under certain circumstances. Fair use does not mean that you can use copyrighted content however you want. It does extend to education purposes. For example, it would be considered fair use if a teacher was to print and use enough copies of a worksheet so that each student could use that worksheet for an upcoming lesson. For more information about Fair Use, you can visit Copyright.gov or Stanford.edu.
