It is my strong recommendation that the parents of the children make an acceptable use policy (AUP) for their children at home as well. Monitoring and controlling their internet usage is an important consideration to make because it filters the information they are receiving. It also establishes a basis for acceptable and unacceptable sites, which makes internet usage safer both at home and at school for the students. If we can get parents to enact an AUP at home, then there will also be less chance they will be introduced to unproductive, unsafe, or inappropriate sites. The focus for us as educators to teach your children in a safe environment and with the introduction of the internet in the classrooms, we must begin to consider how its usage in the classroom can be affected by homelife as well.
