School Lunches

In some cases, lunch is the only healthy meal, or only meal at all, that a child will receive in a day during the school week. there are too many stories of children being singled out, chastised, and humiliated in front of their peers by their educators for not having enough money for lunch or because their parents haven't paid an outstanding balance on their lunch account. This is absolutely unacceptable. School is meant to be a safe place for children where they feel comfortable and ready to learn. I imagine it would be very hard for a child to feel comfortable in an environment where they go hungry at the risk of being embarrased by their teachers for not being able to afford lunch, and I don't know about anyone else but I find it very difficult to concentrate when I'm hungry. Listed below are a few federally funded income based programs for free or reduced lunches at school as well as resources for assistance at home. My door is always open for anyone who would like to talk without fear of judgement.
