Arkansas Code 27-51-1609
states "...a driver of a motor vehicle shall not use a handheld wireless
telephone while operating a motor vehicle when passing a school building or
school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the
building." This should be a federal law. Laws that involve a child's safety
should be uniform throughout the country, not open to interpretation by an
individual state, district, or school. When students are at school, their safety
is our responsibility from the moment they step onto campus until the moment
they leave. No child should be afraid to walk across the street for fear of
being hit by a distracted driver in a school zone.
