Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood sugar
is too high. There are 2 types of diabetes, type
1 and type 2.
Type 1 occurs because
your body does not produce insulin, and it
can occur in anyone, at any age. It also occurs in people of every race, shape,
and size.
Type 2 occurs only if
your body doesn't use insulin correctly. Some with
type 2 can control their blood
sugar by eating healthy and exercising, but others need medication or insuline
to help out.
Although there is not a cure for diabetes, children can
still live a normal childhood if their disorder is controlled. As a parent,
working with your child through their disorder is imperative. As they grow
older, they will gain independence, and will begin to take responsibility for
their diabetes.
In order to manage diabetes, you must find helpful tips
and diets that work for YOU! Learn about your diabetes, so you can learn how to
