Superhero Powers for Teachers
Students look up
to teachers daily and some are not even aware of this. Teachers provide a
whole new light for students in just seven hours for five days a week. The
impact they have on each and every student is different. Each student is
different so there is various ways to make a difference in the lives of
students. With just five days a week and seven-hour days, teachers need to
possess certain qualities that students can notice and become eager to
learn. There are so many original characteristics, or superhero powers, that
a teacher can portray that will have a student excited to be in class. Some
of these are and not limited to: enthusiasm, caring, respect, support, and
set high expectations for students.
When one thinks of enthusiastic for teachers, the movie
Happy-Go-Lucky, may pop into the
mind. In this movie, the teacher (Poppy) goes into her classroom every day
with a smile on her face and ready to tackle any obstacle thrown her way.
One of the hardest obstacles that Poppy faces is from an instructor who says
to her, “You can’t make everybody happy.” Her quick witty reply is, “No harm
in trying.” Enthusiastic people are always trying to cheer others up, which
causes one to think less of self and more of others. Occasionally, people
have hard days and students especially because they are still continuing to
learn new things every day. A teacher needs to possess this quality because
a child needs the assurance that he or she can walk up to a teacher and ask
anything. A superhero teacher is one to leave baggage at home so no one can
tell they are having a bad day. The enthusiasm coming from a great teacher
has the ability to radiate to one student and another, then create a ripple
effect.
Another superhero power that a great
teacher should hold is respect for students. Good teachers will create a
welcoming environment that allows each student to feel safe expressing each
of their opinions. A students’ opinion and ideas ought to be valued. Which
also means that a teacher should make sure each student respects the other,
too. A student learns best when the environment feels secure and knows
without a doubt that the teacher cares and respects each one.
Often times a child feels neglected or as
if no one cares. However, once the child goes to school, the attention
sought there may be the only time a child is noticed. A superhero teacher
ought to be aware of this and be supportive. A child should know without a
doubt that he or she is cared for and that the teacher cares for their
success. Some ways to acknowledge this with students is to always be loving,
smiling and caring. A great teacher is also friendly and allows students to
think outside the box for creativity in order to feel as if he or she is
reaching their full potential.
A superhero teacher is always setting high expectations
for students. A student usually puts in work to teachers as little or as
much as they feel expected of them. To make a student feel like they have
accomplished something each day, a teacher ought to set goals. A great
teacher notices that the expectations created have a huge impact on the
achievement of students. A superhero teacher realizes how each student
processes information, so there might be cases when there is different goals
for some students; however at the end of the day each student feels as if
they have achieved something greater than just sitting in a classroom all
day.
The
qualities for a superhero teacher are various from teacher to teacher.
Overall, a great teacher makes certain each student feels loved and reached
their full potential. Just like a superhero faces challenges and obstacles
but is able to persevere through them, all the while being a great role
model, so is a teacher. A superhero teacher has the ability to change the
world and have a huge impact on the lives of children.
