Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child go to the bathroom?

Yes, if they have a hallpass.

How many times may my child go to the bathroom during the school year?

If your child begins going to the bathroom and it is suspected they are doing it to get out of class, I may end up establishing a rule of how many times they may go to the bathroom. Otherwise, we are starting off on a trust policy. As long as their bathroom breaks are not interrupting their education they will be allowed.

How can I get in contact with you?

My email is sarah.shaw@smail.astate.edu. You can email me at any time.

I am worried about my child. Can I set up a meeting with you outside of Parent-Teacher conferences?

Yes! Email me and we can set up a time to call, skype, or meet in person to discuss your child's education.

My child has a bad grade--can I look at their work and your grade sheet?

If you email me I can send you a rubric or grading score for your child's work. I cannot show you the grae sheet unless it is just your child's alone, as you are not allowed to look at the grades of others in the classroom.

My child was sick and missed a test. Can they retake it?

Yes! As long as your child has a sick note they are able to retake any test that they missed.

My child was bullied in school. What can I do to keep them safe?

Our school has a policy against bullying. The first thing that we can do is be informed. Talking to the student first is the best way to make certain that they are okay. Then, taking appropiate action with discussing the event with said bully, discussing with the principal, and from there do what we can to insure that everyone is safe in our school.

Does my child have to pay for breakfast and lunch?

The students are given lunch forms during the first week of school. After the forms have been filled out, they should be returned to the front office. If you did not get one for whatever reason you can have your child ask for one at the front office. You will be notified via email if your child will eat free or have to pay the reduced or full price.

Am I allowed to visit the classroom?

Parent involvement is encouraged! While it may be a bit disruptive for the students to see a parent in the classroom during our regular class time, you are welcome to come to any events we have at the school. I hope to see you often this school year!

Will the students receive a snack during the school day?

Yes. The school provides snacks for the students once a day and parents/students may bring food as long as they comply with school rules about food, which can be found in the school handbook. When we have an event in the classroom there will be water/juice and snacks.
