Adopt, Don't Shop
A combined 6.5 million animals are captured or surrendered to shelters every year. Approximately 1.5 million of those animals die in a shelter per year. Although this statistc has decreased since 2011, it is still much higher than it should be. The phrase "adopt, don't shop" has recently become very popular due to rescue groups like the ASPCA and their passion for saving the life of animals in that situation. A higher percentage of dogs are purchased from a breeder than those that are purchased from a rescue center. If more people were to adopt animals, many of the breeders in the U.S. would end up going out of business. While some breeders take good care of their animals, many abuse them in puppy mill like scenarios. By rescuing more animals from shelters, we could finally put an end to this horrible puppy producing chain while providing a safe home to a wonderful pet. Below are websites with more information and a local site to look at potentially adopting a sweet new addition.
