Backpack Program More than 22 million children receive free or reduced lunches at school. For many of these children, the meals they receive at school are the only meals they eat. What happens when these children go home for the weekend? Through the backpack program, schools are able to send easily prepared meals home with students in backpacks to eat at home on the weekend.
