Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a very common, very misunderstood learning disability (LD) in our nation today.  When a student is dyslexic, it means that his or her brain is not processing letters and words the way a child's brain usually does.  This makes it very difficult for a child to learn to read the way most children do, and it can even make learning to read feel impossible for that child, especially when they are not diagnosed with dyslexia.

The statistics of children with dyslexia are growing, and we as teachers and parents are constantly learning more about how to better serve and understand our children with this exceptionality.

It's very important to note that a child who has dyslexia is not unintelligent, and he or she CAN learn to read.  It's also important to remember that this child is definitely trying to learn!  His or her brain just sees things differently and is having a hard time seeing the letters and words correctly.  This is an LD that comes with a lot of stigma, but thankfully there is also a lot of research surrounding it as well, and we as teachers are very equipped now on how to educate children with dyslexia.  If you are interested in learning more about this learning disability, you can visit the websites below!
