Copyright and Fair Use

Copyright Laws and Fair Use agreements are very important when deciding how to use texts you have found on the internet.

If a document is copyrighted, this means that the work is owned. Credit must be given to the owner, or permission must be received to use the work from the owner. Documents that are copyrighted can be used by teachers in certain situations. Fair use allows teachers to use copyrighted works in their teaching as long as they use, obtain, and distribute the material appropriately.

Basically, copyright laws are put into place to give credit to whom it is due. Give others credit for their work and take credit for your own hard work!

Fair Use allows teachers to access rich resources to supplement instruction and instructional activities. Fair Use is an agreed arrangement that is highly beneficial to students.
